Underwater Camera Delight

Everyone who lives on the cayes should have an underwater camera!  Well, everyone with a toddler learning to swim....digital cameras sure have changed the family photo album.  This Canon Underwater Powershot is waterproof and shock resistant.  It's not even the underwater feature that makes it so great, it's that it can get wet and you can capture moments you would otherwise be unable to catch.  We spend so much time in or near the water, it now seems silly that we didn't have one before now.

Me at work!

Remember awhile back I mentioned signing some mysterious papers?  Okay, maybe you don't but I promised to explain later, so here goes:  We are now partners in Caye Caulker Properties For Sale, a successful real estate business on the island.  The other day we rode out to the north island to take some property photos and scope out another upcoming listing.  Here are a couple choice photos:

Egan all decked out in his boating gear.

On our way back.  There's the north caye behind us.

This one is for Cara!  Here is the magic of the nursing necklace in action.
So....how awesome is that?!  Sure, as a Realtor in Austin, TX I sometimes brought the baby along when I took property pics or when I showed houses to super-cool clients (like Joy and Adam!), but did I get to do it on a boat?  Did I get to nurse while I drove?  Were shoes optional?

Some January Pics

The locals all carry their babies in their bike baskets or balanced on the handlebars. They drive the golf carts with one arm wrapped around a baby and the other on the steering wheel. Somehow all of them seem to survive! We put Egan in the basket and he was SO not into it. We wear him on our bodies with the Ergo carrier when we bike (or walk or boat or ride in a golf cart).
Egan REALLY not liking the basket idea.
  Egan imitating his father.
Egan in his sleeper in the sand. No more cold nights since around the time this pic was taken (January 10).

Day 1, December 8, 2009

We woke up at Carmen's house (Tommy's mom) in Spring, TX and finished the last bit of packing. My mom came by and hung for a bit and then Carmen dropped us at IAH for a 1:30pm flight to Belize City. We were talking at the airport about what a pain the taxicab, watertaxi route was going to be with the extra bags, so I called Tropic Air (local Belize airline) and made reservations for us to hop onto a small plane to take us straight to the island. $63 US per person and the baby rides free. In times previous, we each just had a small carry-on backpack and would get off the plane and grab a taxi $25 US and about 25 minutes to the water taxi ($7 US, 45 minutes to the caye). Not a bad deal but MAN, OH MAN, was that plane ride sweet! In just 10 minutes we landed in a spot only a short walk from our house. Tommy and I looked at each other when we were standing on the airstrip and we were both like: "I'm gonna cry." And then we started laughing because it was freaking REAL and we were here.

A guy in a golf cart arrived to take our bags to our place and, just as the sun was setting, we were walking into our little house on Caye Caulker, Belize. Egan had his feet in the water before our bags were unloaded.
